[Juglans hindsii] Heartwood ranges from light to chocolate brown, with subtle streaks of gray, purple, red, and sometimes light golden markings. Sapwood is nearly white. Medium texture with moderate, natural luster. Usually straight grain but can be wavy with fiddle back figure throughout. “Marbled Claro Walnut” results when wood from orchard trees are grafted with English Walnut [Juglans regia] sometimes creating colorful/streaked appearance near the graft. Northwest United States, notably California.
